Fly Tyer's Bench ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from those services.
  • Photos: Photos you upload for AI material scanning or submit to the community gallery.
  • Inventory Data: Materials you add to your inventory, including names, brands, colors, sizes, and categories.
  • User Content: Comments, votes, bookmarks, and reports you submit in community features.
  • Communications: Messages you send to our support team.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for troubleshooting and service improvement.
  • Usage Data: Features you use, actions you take, session duration, and app interactions to improve our services.
  • Crash Reports: Technical error logs when the app encounters issues, used solely for debugging and stability improvements.

2. How We Collect Your Data

  • Direct Input: When you create an account, add inventory items, upload photos, or submit content.
  • Automatic Collection: Through standard device APIs when you use the app.
  • Third-Party Authentication: When you choose to sign in with Apple or Google.
  • AI Processing: When you use the material scanning feature, photos are sent to our AI service for analysis.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide Core Services: Process AI material scanning, manage your inventory, display patterns, and sync data across devices (Pro users).
  • Community Features: Display your photos and comments in the community gallery, on our website, and on authorized partner platforms; process your votes and reports.
  • Process Subscriptions: Manage your Pro subscription and payment history.
  • Improve Our Services: Analyze usage patterns to fix bugs, improve features, and enhance user experience.
  • Communicate With You: Send service updates, respond to support requests, and notify you of important changes.
  • Ensure Security: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security issues.

We do NOT: Sell your personal data to third parties, send unsolicited marketing emails (unless you opt in), or make automated decisions that significantly affect you.

4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

We use trusted third-party services to operate Fly Tyer's Bench. Each provider is contractually required to protect your data with the same or greater level of protection as described in this policy:

  • Supabase (Authentication & Database): Stores your account information, inventory data, and uploaded photos. Supabase maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance and encrypts all data at rest and in transit. Supabase Privacy Policy
  • OpenAI (AI Material Identification): Processes photos you upload for material scanning. Photos are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis and are subject to OpenAI's data usage policies. OpenAI does not use API data to train their models. OpenAI Privacy Policy
  • RevenueCat (Subscription Management): Manages your Pro subscription and purchase history. RevenueCat receives your user ID and email to sync subscriptions across devices. RevenueCat Privacy Policy
  • Apple/Google (Authentication): If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only your name and email address. We do not receive your password or other account information.

Third-Party Data Protection Commitment: All third-party service providers we use are required to maintain appropriate security measures and are prohibited from using your data for purposes other than providing services to us. We regularly review our providers' privacy practices to ensure ongoing compliance.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for only as long as necessary to provide our services:

  • Account Data: Retained until you delete your account.
  • Inventory Data: Retained until you delete items or your account.
  • AI Scan Photos: Processed for identification and automatically deleted within 24 hours. Not stored permanently unless you save to community gallery.
  • Community Gallery Photos: Retained until you delete them or your account.
  • Usage Logs: Retained for up to 24 months for analytics purposes, then anonymized or deleted.
  • Crash Reports: Retained for up to 90 days for debugging, then deleted.
  • Support Communications: Retained for up to 36 months for service quality.

6. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

Your Rights

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data.
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw Consent: Revoke consent for data processing at any time.
  • Opt-Out: Opt out of marketing communications.

How to Delete Your Data

You have multiple options to delete your data:

  • Delete Individual Items: Swipe left on any inventory item to delete it.
  • Delete All Inventory: Go to Settings → Delete All Data to clear your inventory while keeping your account.
  • Delete Your Account: Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account to permanently delete your account and all associated data.
  • Email Request: Send a deletion request to greg@flytyersbench.app

Account deletions through the app are processed immediately. Email requests are processed within 7 business days. Once deleted, your data cannot be recovered.

How to Revoke Consent

You can revoke consent for data processing at any time by deleting your account. If you wish to continue using the app with limited data processing, contact us to discuss available options. Note that some data collection is necessary to provide core app functionality.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information:

  • Encryption of data in transit using TLS 1.3
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest
  • Access controls limiting who can view your data
  • Secure authentication through industry-standard providers
  • Regular security assessments of our systems

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to protecting your data using industry best practices.

8. Children's Privacy

Fly Tyer's Bench is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the app, you consent to such transfers. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through our service provider agreements.

10. California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

  • Right to Know: Request what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
  • Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

11. European Union Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

  • Legal Basis: We process your data based on consent (for optional features), contract performance (to provide services), and legitimate interests (to improve our app).
  • Supervisory Authority: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app, sending you an email (for significant changes), or displaying a notice when you open the app. Your continued use of Fly Tyer's Bench after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
