Is the app really free?
Yes. The core app is free: scan materials, browse the pattern library, track your inventory, and share photos with the community. Pro is an optional upgrade for power users who want more scans, full restore, multi-device sync, On the Water trip prep, and offline patterns.
How does the AI material scanner work?
Point your camera at your fly tying materials: hooks, feathers, dubbing, thread, or whatever you have. The scanner reads material details such as brand, product name, color, and size, then lets you review the result before saving. It works with packaged materials and loose items.
What platforms is it available on?
Fly Tyer's Bench is available on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android. Download it free from the App Store or Google Play.
How many patterns are in the library?
Over 500 fly patterns and growing. Each pattern includes a full material list, step-by-step tying instructions, difficulty rating, and target species. The community also submits new patterns regularly.
What does 'pattern matching' mean?
Once you scan your materials into your inventory, the app automatically checks which patterns you have all the materials for. Green means you can tie it now. Yellow means you're just one material away. It even suggests substitutions for materials you're missing.
How many free scans do I get?
Free users get 20 scans per month, which resets on the first of each month. Pro subscribers get 500 scans per month.
What's included in Pro?
Pro includes 500 monthly material scans, full bench restore, multi-device inventory sync, On the Water river guidance, offline pattern access, inventory import/export for annual subscribers, and priority support. Plans start at $5.99/month or $59.99/year.
Can I share photos of my flies?
Absolutely! The community gallery lets you upload photos of your tied flies, link them to specific patterns, and share them with other tyers. You can vote on photos, leave comments, and follow your favorite tyers.
Does it work without internet?
Your inventory is stored locally so it's always available. Pro subscribers can also download the full pattern library and use saved On the Water river reads where available. Scanning and community features require an internet connection.
What is On the Water?
On the Water is a Pro guide for supported waters. It connects hatch timing, water context, and your existing bench inventory into practical fly recommendations, with saved-chart fallback when signal drops.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account in the app. This permanently removes your profile, inventory, photos, and all associated data. You can also email greg@flytyersbench.app to request deletion.
