Tying instructions

  1. Start thread one-third of the way down the hook shank and wrap to the bend, then back up to halfway between the hook point and the barb.

  2. Pull a thin wisp of smoky olive Sow Scud dubbing, snip one end close to your fingertips, and secure it to the hook with a pinch wrap for the antennae.

  3. Direct the antennae down the bend with thread wraps and snip the fibers to length.

  4. Attach one end of the gold Ultra Wire to the top of the hook shank and secure it down the bend with thread wraps.

  5. Secure one end of the Thin Skin strip to the hook shank, leaving about 1/16 inch behind the eye, and wrap thread rearward, keeping it centered.

  6. Form a 3-inch dubbing noodle with smoky olive Sow Scud dubbing, optionally adding a hint of orange in the middle.

  7. Wrap the dubbing noodle forward from the tail to form a plump, tapered body.

  8. Pull the Thin Skin forward, align it with the hook shank, and secure with 2-3 wraps over it, followed by 2-3 jam wraps in front.

  9. Snip the Thin Skin close without cutting the thread wraps.

  10. Make open spiral wraps with the gold Ultra Wire, applying pressure to define segments, and secure at the head with tight thread wraps.

  11. Helicopter the wire to break it off cleanly.

  12. Whip finish a small head and snip the tying thread free.

  13. Apply a drop of super glue or head cement.
