Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise. Wrap 20-25 turns of lead wire in the front 1/3 of the shank. Secure with thread.

  2. Start thread behind the eye and wrap a smooth base over the lead wire to the bend.

  3. Tie in a clump of olive marabou at the bend for the tail, 1-1.5 shank-lengths long.

  4. Add 4-6 strands of copper Flashabou to the tail.

  5. Tie in an olive cross-cut rabbit strip at the bend.

  6. Palmer the rabbit strip forward in touching wraps to the 1/2 point. Tie off and trim.

  7. Tie in one mottled brown hen saddle feather on each side as pectoral fins, extending outward and slightly rearward.

  8. Spin and pack olive deer hair from the midpoint forward to the eye. Pack tightly.

  9. Whip finish at the eye.

  10. Remove the fly and trim the deer hair into a broad, flat sculpin head — wide and flat on top and bottom, tapering back.

  11. Apply 3D stick-on eyes on each side. Secure with UV resin or head cement.
