Tying instructions
Secure the hook in the vise.
Start a small thread base just ahead of the middle of the hook shank.
Attach a medium or large lead dumbell eye with extra wraps and under wraps.
Add a bit of super glue to the bottom of the eyes to keep them in place.
Measure out a white or cream rabbit strip to the desired length.
Cut the strip to size.
Bring your thread to the eye of the hook.
Capture the rabbit strip at just the tip of the strip with your thread.
Pull back the hair right behind the dumbell.
Bring your thread under the dumbell and up over where you parted the hair on the strip.
Make a few wraps to lock that strip in place.
Do the same thing a bit further down the strip.
Come back to the part that you made earlier and use that as a stepping stone to get your thread up to the eye of the hook.
Trim the strip to a point at the tail.
Measure out your top color strip to the same length as the bottom strip. Olive is used here.
Trim to size.
Measure to where the strip will rest on the hook.
Push that spot through the hook point.
Pull the strip down the hook bend and lay it flat against the hook shank.
Take the hook out of the vise.
Pull the strip up towards the eye of the hook and stretch it tight.
Pull back the hairs and tie it in in the head of the fly.
Trim off the waste.
Clean up the head of the fly with a few wraps and cover all the materials.
Trim the top strip to the same length as the bottom strip and make a point.
Take two to four strands of crystal flash and tie them in on the side of the fly just above the dumbell eye.
Wrap the flash around the other side of the fly and tie it in on that side as well.
Whip finish your fly.
Trim your flash to length.
Add a bit of UV curing resin to finish this fly.
Paint it on the thread wraps with the built-in applicator.
Zap it with your UV light.
