Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise. Start orange thread behind the eye.

  2. Wrap thread rearward to the bend of the hook.

  3. If using silk floss, tie in at the bend. If using thread as the body, skip the floss.

  4. Wrap the orange silk or thread forward in smooth, touching turns to the 1/4 point behind the eye. Tie off if using floss.

  5. Select a Hungarian partridge feather with fibers slightly longer than the hook gap.

  6. Strip the fibers from one side of the stem (or fold the feather).

  7. Tie in the partridge feather by the tip just ahead of the body.

  8. Wrap the feather 1.5 to 2 turns maximum. The hackle should be sparse.

  9. Tie off the feather and trim the excess stem.

  10. Build a small thread head. Whip finish and apply head cement.
