Tying instructions

  1. Place a long shank streamer hook in the vise.

  2. Slide the Fish-Skull Baitfish Head over the hook eye.

  3. Start thread wraps between the space in the cap.

  4. Bring thread all the way back to the start of the bend of the hook.

  5. Snip off a taper at the tip of the skin of the rabbit strip.

  6. Measure out a hook shank length of the rabbit strip.

  7. Pull the fur back at that measurement.

  8. Make 4-5 tight wraps to attach the zonker strip onto the hook.

  9. Pull back the strip and make a few wraps in front of it, then bring the thread back to just behind the strip.

  10. Make a dubbing loop and attach your dubbing twister.

  11. Advance your thread up the hook shank.

  12. Pull a fair amount of ice dub out of the bag and pull it apart with your fingers to align the fibers.

  13. Spread the fibers out a bit.

  14. Place the dubbing in your loop and twist it up to create a hackle.

  15. Pick out and brush your hackle to make sure there are no twisted or trapped fibers.

  16. Pull all the fibers rearward and start making wraps up the hook shank, stroking the fibers rearward with every wrap.

  17. Capture the dubbing loop and snip off the waste.

  18. Pick out the dubbing with your bodkin and stroke all the fibers rearward.

  19. Split the dubbing on top of the hook shank and stroke all the fibers to the side.

  20. Pull the zonker strip over the dubbing tight and tie down with a few tight wraps.

  21. Snip off any extra strip past your wraps.

  22. Clean up that section with wraps to further secure the strip.

  23. Pull out some appropriate color laser dubbing and pull apart in your fingers multiple times to align the fibers.

  24. Tie the dubbing in on top of the hook shank in the center of the bunch with a couple wraps.

  25. Select a light color laser dubbing, but use a little less.

  26. Pull apart in your fingers as well, but cut this in half as we don't need as long a piece.

  27. Tie it down in the center of the bunch, but on the side of the hook.

  28. Pull the front part rearward on the other side of the hook and tie down with a wrap or two.

  29. Pull back the top dubbing clump and tie that in rearward as well.

  30. To cover your wraps, pinch the side of the dubbing.

  31. Check your cap to see if you need to add more dubbing.

  32. Whip finish your fly.

  33. Pick out the dubbing and brush it rearward.

  34. Add some adhesive to the front of the fly.

  35. Push the head on firmly, wiggling it back and forth to really have it on tight.

  36. Position the dubbing fibers to where you want them.

  37. Let the glue dry.

  38. Trim the fly a little, stroking the dubbing up a little, then make a taper cut.
