Tying instructions
Secure the 1.8mm tube in the vise.
Start thread in front of the tube, leaving room in the front, and work thread backwards to create the body. The longer you work backwards, the longer the body will be.
Cut off the end of the thread.
Select a clump of white calf tail for the tail.
Stack the calf tail fibers together using a hair stacker or by hand.
Tie in the calf tail at the back of the tube. The tail length should be a little less than the length of the body.
Work thread forward to the front of the tube.
Cut the calf tail at an angle, approximately halfway up the tube.
Select a clump of white calf tail for the wing.
Tie in the calf tail at the front of the tube, on top of the tube.
Work thread backwards to the back of the tube.
Select a grizzly orange saddle hackle.
Tie in the saddle hackle at the back of the tube.
Secure the tail and front (wings) with tape.
Prepare and spin deer hair.
Shape the body.
Add hackle.
Whip finish the thread to the front.
