Tying instructions
Mash the barb of the hook with pliers or in the jaws of your tying vise.
Insert the hook point into the small hole of the bead and slide the bead to the hook eye.
Secure the hook and bead assembly in your tying vise.
Wrap .020 lead-free wire from above the hook barb to behind the bead, then break off the wire close.
Push the wire wraps into the bead and close any gaps.
Wrap yellow 70 denier thread behind the weight, snip the excess tag, and cover the wire with cross wraps.
Flatten the wire slightly with needle nose pliers for an oval body shape.
Create a thin dubbing noodle on the thread and wrap a ball at the end of the weight.
Wrap thread forward to behind the bead.
Secure gold ultra wire on top of the hook shank with thread wraps, allowing it to fall on the far side.
Wrap thread back to the dubbing ball.
Snip two amber goose biots, measure to hook shank length, and secure one on each side of the hook with the curve outward.
Squeeze biots together and secure them to the shank up to the bead, then return thread to the dubbing ball.
Lay pheasant tail fibers on top of the shank and secure them with thread wraps, then return thread to the dubbing ball.
Build a 3-inch taper noodle on the thread and wrap to form the abdomen, ending halfway between the hook point and eye.
Pull pheasant tail fibers over the dubbing and secure with thread wraps to form the first wing pad, then repeat for the second wing pad.
Snip excess fibers close to the bead.
Perform a four or five turn whip finish, placing the crossover point on top of the hook, then do a second whip finish.
Build up a bump over the wing pads and bead with UV cure material, then cure with UV light.
Use a bodkin to pick out dubbing on either side of the thorax.
