Tying instructions

  1. Secure hook in vise and start thread behind the eye.

  2. Wrap thread back to secure and clip tag end.

  3. Cut a piece of Mirage Tinsel Opal, Medium.

  4. Tie in the tinsel at the tie-in point.

  5. Wrap the tinsel back into the bend of the hook.

  6. Bring the thread up to one eye-length behind the eye.

  7. Wrap the tinsel forward to where the thread is hanging.

  8. Tie off the tinsel with two wraps over top and pull backwards to secure.

  9. Cut a piece of 2mm Tan foam to size.

  10. Secure the foam to the top of the hook.

  11. Measure the foam body from the tie-in point to the end of the body, then add an extra length of that same length. This should be about the length of the hook.

  12. Tie in a healthy clump of Premium Yearling Elk.

  13. Flick the butt ends of the elk clump to loosen the underfur.

  14. Remove the shorter materials and underfur.

  15. Stack the elk hair in a hair stacker.

  16. Tie in the elk hair on top of the hook, with the tips extending slightly past the foam body.

  17. Wrap the thread forward through the elk hair.

  18. Clip the butt ends of the elk hair as close as possible to the hook eye.

  19. Tie in the dry fly hackle with the shiny side facing you.

  20. Remove some fibers from the top side of the hackle.

  21. Wrap the hackle with the dull side facing the body.

  22. Wrap the hackle to the eye and tie off.

  23. Whip finish and clip the thread.

  24. Apply head cement or UV resin to the head.
