Tying instructions
Secure hook in vise and start thread a couple eye-lengths behind the eye.
Tie in a sparse bunch of rust or orange antron or darlon at the tie-in point, extending one shank-length beyond the bend. Trim excess.
Tie in a clump of gray poly yarn at the tie-in point, extending beyond the hook eye. Wrap back to the base of the tail.
Dub a slightly tapered body with gray superfine dubbing, ending at the tie-in point.
Pull the poly yarn forward over the body, extending beyond the hook eye, and buckle it back. Tie down with a pinch wrap.
Trim the excess poly yarn just short of the hook eye.
Tie in a dun rooster hackle feather by the stem.
Wrap the hackle forward in 3-4 turns.
Tie off the hackle and trim the excess.
Build a small thread head to cover the stub.
Whip finish and trim the thread.
