Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread a little ways down the hook shank.

  3. Cut off the waste thread.

  4. Bring the thread down to the start of the bend of the hook.

  5. Bring the thread up to just behind the eye.

  6. Clip off about 6 strands of Hot Clear White Crystal Web.

  7. Fold the strands in half and cut them to make the strands half length.

  8. Place the white Crystal Web on the underside of the hook and tie them in directly in the middle of the bunch.

  9. While holding the material, wrap back to the start of the bend of the hook, ensuring that the material stays on the bottom of the hook.

  10. Bring the forward-facing fibers rearward and tie them down on the other side of the shank, directly under the hook shank.

  11. Bring the thread back up to just behind the eye of the hook.

  12. Clip off about 6 strands of Hot Chartreuse Crystal Web.

  13. Prepare the Chartreuse Crystal Web in the same way as the white and then tie it in on top of the hook, directly behind the eye of the hook in the center of the bunch.

  14. Bring the thread back to the start of the bend as well, ensuring that the material stays on top of the hook shank.

  15. Pull all the forward-facing fibers rearward and tie them down.

  16. Bring the thread back up to the eye of the hook.

  17. Tie in one strand of lateral scale flashabou so it extends back about halfway down the tail of the fly.

  18. Bring the thread down to the start of the bend of the hook, ensuring that the flash stays on the side of the hook.

  19. Bring the thread up just a few wraps and then pull the forward-facing flash rearward and tie it down on the side of the hook.

  20. Make sure it's positioned correctly and tie down to the start of the bend of the hook as well.

  21. Bring the thread back up to the eye of the hook and whip finish the fly.

  22. Trim off the waste.

  23. Add a dot of UV resin behind the hook eye on both sides.

  24. Place one eye on one side and the other eye on the other.

  25. Make sure they are positioned evenly, looking from the top of the hook, the side of the hook, and straight on as well.

  26. Tap it with your UV light and they will stay put.

  27. Add more of the thin Solarez UV resin along the hook shank between the eyes and back slightly into the tail.

  28. Keep the vise rotating to make sure the resin doesn't drip and make sure it's evenly coated along the hook.

  29. Pull back the tail material to be tight and straight and then zap it with your UV light to harden the resin.

  30. Spread along the shank making sure to coat the entire body with the thick resin.

  31. Use a bodkin to spread it around evenly. Try to get both sides as even as possible and I also like to make a larger belly on the fly as well.

  32. When you're happy with the shape, then cure it. Don't worry, it does not have to be perfect. We will fix any lumpy areas in a minute.

  33. Use the ultra-thin resin to smooth it out and make a really hard coat. This will fill in small bumps.

  34. Cure it with the light both times.

  35. Color the top with chartreuse to make it even brighter.

  36. Add a little bit of orange for the belly to look like a gill or egg sack.

  37. Trim the tail to make it tapered.
