Tying instructions

  1. Secure the saltwater hook in the vise and start the thread approximately one-third shank length behind the hook eye. Trim the thread tag.

  2. Attach the dumbbell eyes on top of the shank using cross wraps. Apply superglue if desired, then extend the thread base to the bend.

  3. Cut a 5" to 8" strip of magnum rabbit strip and create a slit in the middle of the leather approximately 1/2" from the leading edge.

  4. Remove the hook from the vise and attach the rabbit strip through the slit, ensuring the fur side is up when the hook is inverted.

  5. Secure the rabbit strip to the shank with thread wraps.

  6. Rotate the hook and secure a clump of black bucktail at the rear of the dumbbell eyes, leaving the butt ends extending forward. Wrap the thread forward to secure.

  7. Pull the butt ends of the bucktail forward over the eyes and secure with thread. Trim any excess extending over the hook eye.

  8. Rotate the hook and tie in 6-12 strands of flashabou along the bottom of the hook shank, ensuring the flash extends no further than the tail length.

  9. Tie in a clump of purple bucktail over the flash and secure with thread.

  10. Whip finish the thread and apply UV resin to complete the fly.
