Tying instructions
Secure a sewing needle in the vise.
Start thread on the needle, leaving a long tag end.
Drape the tag end back and clip it in the material spring of the vise.
Clean and stack a large clump of dyed green elk rump.
Measure the elk rump to just short of 3/4 inch.
Tie the elk rump to the needle with two turns of thread.
Flare the butt ends and make about 10 turns of thread to anchor the hair.
Draw all the tips back, keeping them tight, and cross the thread over the top.
Make the first segment with four or five turns of thread.
Cross the thread again on top and make another segment, descending in size.
Repeat the previous step to make a third segment, close to the tips.
Remove the extended body from the needle.
Secure the hook in the vise.
Start the thread on the hook shank, just back to where the barb would be.
Apply a small amount of superglue to the thread base.
Tie in the extended body at the tie-off point.
Wrap the thread tightly through the butt ends to the base of the wing.
Tie in a grizzly dyed yellow rooster hackle at the base of the wing.
Dub body to match color
Tie in the olive brown perfect rubber legs at the base of the wing, creating an X shape.
Wrap the hackle around the base of the wing.
Whip finish behind the eye and trim the thread.
Trim the legs to just short of the end of the body.
