Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise and lay down a thread base to the start of the bend.

  2. Select 6-8 golden pheasant tippet fibers for the tail, find the desired length, and snip the tips.

  3. Tie in the tail at the start of the bend, with the tail extending one hook-shank length beyond the bend.

  4. Take two slips of white duck feather.

  5. Tie in the wing at the 1/3 point, opposite of how you would tie in a wet fly wing.

  6. Make a loose wrap and then pull it tighter coming up on this side.

  7. Split the wings and use a couple of figure-8 wraps in between them to keep them separate.

  8. Lift the wings up and put a little dam in here, leaning a little forward.

  9. Take two strands of peacock herl and tie them in at the base of the tail.

  10. Wrap the peacock herl forward to the 1/3 point.

  11. Tie in the red floss band.

  12. Wrap the red floss band forward to the 2/3 point.

  13. Tie in the brown rooster hackle.

  14. Wrap the hackle 3-4 times behind the wing and 3-4 times in front of the wing.

  15. Tie off the hackle and snip the excess.

  16. Whip finish and add head cement.
