Tying instructions
Secure the hook in the vise. Start thread behind the eye.
Wrap thread rearward to the bend, laying a smooth base.
Tie in 8-10 light dun hackle fibers at the bend for the tail. Length should equal the hook shank.
Trim the butt ends and advance thread to the 2/3 point.
Select two matched light dun hen hackle tips and tie in upright at the 2/3 mark for wings.
Build a thread dam in front to stand the wings. Use figure-eight wraps to separate.
Dub a thin, tapered noodle of sulphur orange dubbing onto the thread.
Wrap the dubbed body from the tail to the wings, building a gentle taper.
Tie in a light dun hackle feather behind the wings, stripped of lower fibers.
Wrap the hackle 2-3 turns behind and 2-3 turns in front of the wings. Tie off and trim.
Build a neat thread head. Whip finish and apply head cement.
