Tying instructions
Secure the emerger hook in the vise.
Start the thread at the eye of the hook and wrap rearward to the bend.
Select a small bunch of mallard flank fibers and tie in at the bend for the tail, extending about half a shank length beyond the bend.
Dub a small amount of olive dry fly dubbing onto the thread to form a thin dubbing noodle.
Wrap the dubbing noodle forward to create a slim, tapered body, stopping at the 60% mark on the shank.
Select another small bunch of mallard flank fibers and tie in at the 60% mark to form a wing, extending slightly beyond the body.
Wrap in a dubbing noodle of the squirrel, wrap flank feathers forward and then secure.
Whip finish and trim the thread.
Apply a small amount of head cement to the thread wraps for durability.
