Tying instructions

  1. Slide slotted tungsten bead onto hook and secure hook in vise.

  2. Start fluorescent orange thread behind bead. Build a small orange hotspot collar, then tie off and trim.

  3. Start olive thread behind the orange hotspot and wrap to the bend of the hook.

  4. Select mallard flank fibers and tie in at the bend for the tail, about one shank length long.

  5. Tie in copper wire ribbing at the base of the tail.

  6. Dub hare's ear dubbing onto the thread, creating a slightly tapered noodle.

  7. Wrap dubbed thread forward to behind the bead, building a tapered body.

  8. Counter-wrap copper wire forward in 4-5 evenly spaced turns. Secure behind the bead and trim.

  9. Tie in a CDC feather by the tip behind the bead.

  10. Wrap CDC feather 1-2 turns for a sparse collar. Secure with thread and trim excess.

  11. Tie in a Hungarian partridge feather by the tip.

  12. Wrap partridge 1-2 turns over the CDC collar. Secure with thread and trim excess.

  13. Stroke hackle fibers rearward and build a small thread head.

  14. Whip finish behind the bead and apply a drop of head cement or superglue to the thread wraps.
