Tying instructions

  1. Insert the hook securely in the vise, ensuring the shank is horizontal.

  2. Start the thread at the hook eye and wrap a base layer back to the bend, covering the shank evenly.

  3. Cut a rabbit zonker strip to a length equal to the hook shank.

  4. Tie in the rabbit zonker strip at the bend using pinch wraps, ensuring the fur extends one hook shank length beyond the bend.

  5. Optional: Tie in a piece of hard mono at the bend for a weed guard, extending it forward along the shank.

  6. Advance the thread to just behind the hook eye, securing the weed guard if used.

  7. Whip finish and cut the thread near the hook eye.

  8. Fold the 3/4 inch foam strip under the hook shank, aligning the front edge with the hook eye.

  9. Secure the foam to the hook shank with super glue gel, ensuring it adheres along the entire length.

  10. Trim the foam to create a tapered shape, narrowing towards the hook bend.

  11. Fold the 1/2 inch foam strip over the hook shank, aligning it with the top of the 3/4 inch foam.

  12. Secure the top foam strip to the bottom strip with super glue gel, pressing firmly to ensure a strong bond.

  13. Trim the excess foam at the rear to match the taper of the bottom strip.

  14. Apply super glue gel to the front of the foam head.

  15. Attach doll eyes to the front of the foam, positioning them symmetrically on each side.

  16. Allow the glue to dry completely before handling the fly.
