Tying instructions
Place a sewing needle in the tying vise and secure a 1/4" wide strip of black foam with thread. Cover approximately 1/2" of foam with thread wraps.
Tie in flat silver tinsel at the rear of the thread-wrapped foam.
Dub a thick abdomen over the thread-wrapped section of foam using Ice Dub, Peacock.
Wrap the tinsel forward over the dubbed abdomen. Secure with thread and trim excess.
Whip finish, trim thread, and carefully remove the foam abdomen from the vise.
Place the scud hook in the vise and build a thread base extending to the bend.
Secure the foam abdomen extending from the bend. Trim any excess foam extending forward from the tie-down point.
Dub the body forward along the shank, stopping approximately one eye length behind the hook eye.
Create a dubbing loop with CDC feather tips.
Wrap the dubbing loop around the shank at the front of the dubbed body and secure.
Part the CDC along the top of the shank, pull the foam extending from the rear of the abdomen forward, and secure behind the hook eye. Take care not to pull the dubbed abdomen up and forward.
Trim a small square of brightly colored foam and secure it above the black foam at the tie-down point as an indicator spot.
Whip finish, trim thread, and apply flex seal to complete the fly.
