Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread behind the hook eye and wrap back to the bend.

  3. Clip the excess thread.

  4. Continue wrapping back to the bend.

  5. Grab four strands of gold crystal flash.

  6. Pinch trap the crystal flash to the back of the hook.

  7. Take a few securing wraps.

  8. Pull the butt ends of the crystal flash to the other side of the hook.

  9. Secure them on the other side.

  10. Measure the tail to the same distance from the hook bend to the hook point.

  11. Cut the tail.

  12. Move the thread to the front of the hook just behind the hook eye.

  13. Lightly wax the thread.

  14. Roll a golden brown Hare'e Ice Dubbing noodle onto the thread, a couple inches long.

  15. Take tight touching wraps towards the bend of the hook.

  16. Add more dubbing if needed.

  17. Wrap the dubbing forward to the hook point.

  18. Cut a rectangular piece of black foam, about a hook shank and a half in length.

  19. The foam should reach from the end of the tail to a couple eye lengths in front of the hook eye.

  20. The width of the foam should be equal to that of the hook gap.

  21. Cut the foam to have a rounded back.

  22. Line it up with the back of the flash.

  23. Take a couple loose wraps and secure by pulling up towards yourself.

  24. Skip the thread back and take a couple more securing wraps to make a small gap in which legs will sit.

  25. Grab some barred brown and tan centipede legs.

  26. Measure the one end just to the end of the tail.

  27. Take a couple loose wraps.

  28. Fold the rubber leg over just under the foam.

  29. Pinch it to the other side and take a couple more securing wraps.

  30. Cut the other leg to match the end of the tail.

  31. Grab some tan Widow's Web and measure it to sit right on top of the back wing.

  32. Secure it in.

  33. Make a small loop so that the Widow's Web sits right on top.

  34. Clip it at a 45 degree angle downwards just beyond the tail.

  35. Protect the thread wraps with wax and dubbing.

  36. Whip finish and clip the thread.

  37. Add a drop of super glue to the top of the fly.
