Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread behind the eye.

  3. Wrap the thread down the shank to the bend.

  4. Wrap the thread back up to just behind the eye, covering the shank with a layer of thread.

  5. Pull a few fibers off the corner of the egg yarn clump and roll them in your fingers to draw out a strand.

  6. Cut the tapered end off the egg yarn strand.

  7. Tie the egg yarn strand in just behind the eye.

  8. Wrap back over the egg yarn all the way back to the bend.

  9. Cut the egg yarn into about 1/8 inch long chunks.

  10. Stir the egg yarn chunks up in your palm to create a dubbing.

  11. Dub the egg yarn onto the thread.

  12. Wrap the dubbing back to the bend.

  13. Build a fairly level thorax up the shank, leaving a bit of room behind the hook eye.

  14. Make a little thread base.

  15. Tie in a single strand of small black round rubber legs like spinner wings, catching it with a couple of turns stacked right over the top of each other.

  16. Turn and pull the front end of the rubber legs back toward you and complete a couple of extra wraps to get them at a right angle to the hook.

  17. Make a few turns of thread behind the eyes and then in front.

  18. Whip finish and trim the thread.

  19. Pull the two strands of the rubber legs up and trim them off short to create two little black eyes.

  20. Roll the body up a bit.

  21. Trim the top of the thorax flat, so there are no legs on top.

  22. Shorten the tail to about two shank lengths.
