Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise. Start yellow thread behind the eye and wrap to the bend.

  2. Cut a strip of 2mm pale yellow foam, about 3/16 inch wide.

  3. Tie in the foam strip at the bend, extending slightly past the hook bend.

  4. Dub a thin underbody of yellow Superfine dubbing from the bend to the 2/3 point.

  5. Fold the foam forward over the body and tie down at the 2/3 point.

  6. Tie in a post of white calf body hair or poly yarn, standing upright at the 2/3 point.

  7. Select, clean, and stack a bunch of natural elk hair. Tie in as a wing over the body.

  8. Tie in knotted rubber legs on each side, extending outward and rearward.

  9. Tie in a grizzly hackle feather at the base of the post.

  10. Wrap the hackle parachute-style around the post, 4-5 turns, working downward. Tie off.

  11. Fold the foam forward to form the head. Tie down behind the eye and trim excess.

  12. Whip finish and apply head cement.
