Tying instructions

  1. Secure the dry fly hook in the vise.

  2. Start the rusty brown 8/0 thread at the head and wrap rearward to the bend.

  3. Select a small bunch of grey partridge neck fibers and tie in at the bend for the tail, extending one hook-gap length beyond the tie-in point.

  4. Take 3 inches of yellow silk floss, split off 2 strands, and tie them in at the bend for the ribbing.

  5. Prepare a small bunch of elk deer hair by removing the guard hairs and stacking. Tie it in on top of the hook at the 60% mark, tips extending over the eye by a hook length, forming an upright wing.

  6. Wax the thread and create a dubbing noodle with WAPSI Fox Squirrel Dubbing.

  7. Wrap the dubbed thread forward to form a tapered body, making one turn in front of the deer hair wing to fan it upright.

  8. Wrap the yellow silk floss forward in evenly spaced turns to form the ribbing, and tie off behind the eye.

  9. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and trim the thread.

  10. Apply head cement to secure the wraps.
