Tying instructions

  1. Secure the saltwater hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread immediately behind the hook eye and build up a thread base.

  3. Tie in the dumbbell eyes on top of the shank approximately one eye length behind the hook eye.

  4. Continue the thread base to the bend of the hook.

  5. Tie in a mono eye along the near side of the shank, wrapping the thread slightly up the bend to angle the eye.

  6. Repeat with a second mono eye on the opposite side of the shank.

  7. Trim excess mono and tie in 6-8 strands of Krystal Flash at the bend, extending just beyond the mono eyes.

  8. Tie a sparse clump of olive marabou over the flash.

  9. Tie in the ice chenille at the bend, make 3-4 wraps forward, secure with thread, and trim excess.

  10. Strip the mid-portion of a brown hen hackle feather and secure it to the near side of the shank with the tip extending to the rear.

  11. Repeat on the opposite side of the shank and trim stems below the tie-in point.

  12. Tie in a third brown hen hackle feather along the top of the shank and wrap the thread forward to the dumbbell eyes.

  13. Wrap the hackle forward to the rear of the dumbbell eyes, secure with thread, and trim excess.

  14. Pass the thread to the front of the dumbbell eyes and rotate the vise 180 degrees.

  15. Secure a sparse bunch of natural coastal deer hair with two loose wraps before cinching down.

  16. Whip finish, trim the butt ends of the deer hair, and apply UV resin to complete the fly.
