Tying instructions
Secure the hook in the vise.
Start the thread behind the eye and wrap back to the bend of the hook.
Dub a tiny bit of red ice dubbing onto the thread.
Wrap the red dubbing to form a small ball at the bend of the hook.
Trim out any shaggy fibers.
Dub pale yellow or PMD colored superfine dubbing onto the thread.
Dub the body two-thirds of the way forward.
Tie in a generous clump of bleached elk hair for the wing, about half the diameter of a pencil.
Measure the wing so it slightly overhangs the back of the fly.
Make a couple of loose wraps, then tighten down.
Wrap through a few of the fibers to keep the wing from rolling.
Trim the excess wing material.
Tie in a dark barred ginger hackle feather.
Wrap the hackle forward, slightly spacing out the wraps.
Tie off the hackle.
Trim the excess hackle.
Whip finish.
Trim the thread.
