Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread an eye-length behind the eye.

  3. Make a couple wraps back to the hook point.

  4. Attach the wire on the side of the hook with two wraps.

  5. Pull the wire through the thread to get it to the right length, starting out to where you started your thread.

  6. Make tight touching wraps back up towards the eye, securing the wire tightly.

  7. Go back down the hook quite a ways down the bend with touching wraps covering the wire and hook shank.

  8. Ensure the wire has no sharp bends to it and that it evenly stays on the side of the hook.

  9. Twist your thread counter-clockwise to uncord it and make the thread flat.

  10. Wrap back up the hook shank with touching wraps trying to make the abdomen as smooth as possible.

  11. Capture the wire with three to four tight wraps.

  12. Pull the wire rearward and wrap over it going the other direction a few times as well.

  13. Helicopter the wire off clean.

  14. Dub on a rather thin noodle and make a dubbing ball right behind the eye of the hook.

  15. Bring your thread forward right behind the eye and stroke all the fibers rearward.

  16. Make one last wrap behind the eye.

  17. Paint a little head cement onto your thread and whip finish that into the fly.

  18. Whip finish over the head cement.

  19. Pinch the whip finish with your fingernails to set it back behind the eye.
