Tying instructions
Secure the hook in the vise. Start pale yellow thread behind the eye.
Wrap thread to the bend, building a smooth foundation.
Select 8-12 light dun hackle fibers and tie them in at the bend for the tail, one shank-length long.
Trim excess butt ends. Advance thread to the 2/3 mark.
Select two matched light dun hen hackle tips for the wings. Tie in at the 2/3 point.
Stand the wings upright with a thread dam. Separate with figure-eight wraps.
Apply pale yellow Superfine dubbing to the thread in a thin noodle.
Wrap the dubbed thread from the tail forward to the wings, creating a slim, tapered body.
Select an appropriately sized light dun hackle. Strip the butt fibers and tie in behind the wings.
Wrap the hackle 2 turns behind and 2-3 turns in front of the wings. Tie off and trim.
Form a small, neat head with thread wraps. Whip finish.
Apply a drop of head cement to secure the thread head.
