Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread at the eye and wrap back to the bend.

  3. Take a white or light ginger hackle and pull out a dozen or so barbs.

  4. Tie in the tail at the bend, making it about a body length.

  5. Snip off the stubs up front.

  6. Pull out about 4-5 inches of thread and hold it in your finger.

  7. Take the thread back up and catch it off to create a dubbing loop for a rib.

  8. Park the thread off to the side with a magnet.

  9. Cut a strip of yellow foam that is about as thick as it is wide.

  10. Catch in the foam a little bit in front of where you are going to start wrapping.

  11. Wrap the foam up to a couple eye-lengths back, about where you are going to stop the body and start the hackle.

  12. Counter wrap the thread up the body, spinning the thread to reinforce the foam.

  13. Catch the rib off.

  14. Take a feather from the same hackle and measure it to be about 1-1.5 hook gap widths.

  15. Tie in the hackle and wrap forward, binding the stem.

  16. Snip the thread and the excess feather.

  17. Pull everything back and whip finish.
