Tying instructions

  1. Secure the hook in the vise.

  2. Start the thread behind the eye and wrap to the barb.

  3. Tie in a small bunch of antron yarn in the middle of the hook shank.

  4. Wrap the thread back to the tie-in point directly above the barb of the hook.

  5. Trim the excess antron yarn to length.

  6. Strip off a turkey biot from the feather.

  7. Tie in the turkey biot with the notched end facing to the right.

  8. Wrap the biot forward to about 3/4 of the hook shank, creating a segmented body.

  9. Secure the biot with thread wraps.

  10. Select a CDC feather and comb the fibers down.

  11. Measure the tip end to about the length of the hook shank.

  12. Tie in the CDC feather at the 2/3 point of the hook shank.

  13. Trim the excess CDC.

  14. Select a Whiting Farms saddle hackle.

  15. Prepare the hackle by notching a section of the stem.

  16. Tie in the hackle at the base of the CDC.

  17. Wrap the hackle forward about four turns.

  18. Hold the hackle straight up and drop the thread over to tie it down.

  19. Clip off the excess hackle.

  20. Pull everything back, including the CDC.

  21. Build a small head in front of the CDC to help it stand upright.

  22. Whip finish and add head cement.
