Tying instructions
Secure the standard dry fly hook in the vise.
Start the black thread one eye-width behind the eye and wrap rearward to the bend.
Select a small bunch of natural moose body hair, measure it to be the length of the hook shank, and tie it in at the bend for the tail. Trim excess.
Tie in a length of red floss at the base of the tail and wrap it forward to the midpoint of the shank. Tie off and trim.
Select 3-4 strands of peacock herl and tie them in at the midpoint of the shank. Wrap the herl forward to the 60% mark to form the body. Tie off and trim.
Prepare a small bunch of white calf body hair, clean and stack it, then tie it in at the 60% mark to form an upright wing, the height of the hook shank. Trim excess.
Select a coachman brown hackle feather, size matched to the hook, and tie it in at the base of the wing.
Wrap the hackle forward in 4-5 turns, stopping one eye-width behind the eye. Tie off and trim excess.
Build a neat thread head, whip finish, and trim the thread.
Apply head cement to the thread head for durability.
