Tying instructions
Secure the hook in the vise.
Start the thread just behind the eye and wrap down to about 1/3 of the shank.
Return the thread to just behind the eye and trim away the waste thread.
Select a large CDC feather with a barb length of about 2-2.5 times the length of the shank.
Strip away some of the fibers near the base of the CDC feather.
Tie in the CDC feather at right angles to the hook shank, just behind the eye.
Trim away the excess CDC feather.
Advance the thread to the end of the hook shank.
Clip on hackle pliers to the CDC feather.
Start wrapping the CDC feather forward, using 1-2 turns to start.
Wrap the barbs over the preceding one, pulling them back as you wrap.
Continue wrapping the CDC feather forward to create a paint brush effect at the back.
Tie off the CDC feather.
Remove the hackle pliers.
Pull any errant fibers back.
Make a final turn and spiral the thread back to the eye.
Pull the CDC feather over to form a shellback and tie it down at the eye with a few turns.
Lift some of the CDC fibers and make a locking turn, repeat.
Lift all the CDC fibers and make a few locking turns in front.
Finish off with a three-turn whip finish.
Trim away any excess material.
