Tying instructions
Secure the hook in the vise.
Start the thread behind the eye and wrap down to the point of the hook.
Select a dyed black CDC feather.
Tie in the CDC feather at the base, pulling the fibers into the tip.
Twist the CDC to create a body.
Wind the CDC forward to create the body, leaving room for the thorax.
Tie off and trim the excess CDC.
Select a crow feather and trim a section of the straighter fibers.
Tie in the crow feather wing at the bend of the hook.
Fold the wing forward and secure it.
Trim the excess wing material.
Select a few bronze or grey mallard fibers.
Tie in the mallard fibers as horns, extending forward.
Dub the thorax with the remaining CDC fibers.
Whip finish and apply varnish to the head.
